Honda calls itself “victimˮ of Takata’s fraud

NEW YORK- Honda Motor Co. said Friday it was a victim of fraud by Takata Corp. denying a claim that Honda and other automakers covered up defects in air bags supplied by Takata.
"Honda was a victim of Takata's fraud, and not a participant," Honda said in a statement over a group lawsuit filed in the United States against automakers including Honda.
In the lawsuit, plaintiffs who are owners of vehicles with defective Takata air bags are seeking damages from the automakers to make up for their economic losses caused by the air bag issue, claiming that the firms concealed the defects.
In May, Japan's Toyota Motor Corp. Mazda Motor Corp. and Subaru Corp., and Germany's BMW AG reached a settlement by agreeing to pay a total of $553 million in compensation.
Honda, which sold the largest number of vehicles with defective Takata air bags, Nissan Motor Co. and US auto giant Ford Motor Co. are still in settlement talks with plaintiffs. (Jiji Press)
