DOH chief confirms 1st case of Wuhan 2019 Novel Coronavirus in PH

Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque confirmed Thursday the first case of the Wuhan 2019 Novel Coronavirus in the Philippines. He said a specimen taken from a sick 38-year old Chinese national was found positive of the virus when tested at an Australian laboratory. Duque said the woman patient arrived in the Philippines from Wuhan, China on Jan. 21. She was confined in a government hospital on Jan. 25 after she sought medical attention.
Duque said health workers are monitoring 29 patients, 18 of them in Metro Manila. He also 5 other patients have been discharged. Another suspected 2019-nCov carrier, who had tested positive for HIV, died of pneumonia at San Lazaro Hospital.
