2nd Muji Hotel Opens in Beijing

July 1, 2018

Beijing- Japan's Ryohin Keikaku Co., the operator of Muji brand household goods stores, opened the second hotel under the brand in downtown Beijing on Saturday jointly with a unit of Odakyu Electric Railway Co..

The Muji Hotel Beijing is located near Tiananmen Square, a popular tourist spot in the Chinese capital. But efforts to make services simple have enabled the hotel to offer relatively low room rates despite the good location, Ryohin Keikaku said.

The Muji Hotel is designed to reflect an anti-gorgeous, anti-cheap concept and offer guests comfort at the right price, the company said.

The first Muji hotel opened in Shenzhen, China's Guangdong Province, in January this year. The third one is scheduled to open in Tokyo's posh Ginza district in spring next year.

"China is our major battlefield," Ryohin Keikaku President Satoru Matsuzaki told Japanese reporters on Friday.

The Beijing hotel uses many natural materials such as bamboo, with which Chinese people are familiar.

Room rates start at 550 yuan per night. Guests will find Muji goods in their rooms and can buy them at a store in the hotel. Jiji Press
