July 17, 2018
Tokyo, July 17 (Jiji Press)--All Nippon Airways said Tuesday that it will cancel 378 domestic flights in August due to the effects of safety inspections of its Boeing 787 aircraft engines.
The unit of ANA Holdings Inc. canceled some of its domestic flights from July 6 due to the checks.
The total number of canceled flights will reach 997 at the end of August, affecting some 160,000 passengers in total.
Of the 378 flights, 112 are those between Tokyo International Airport at Haneda and Fukuoka Airport, and 95 between Haneda and Kansai International Airport. The August cancellations are forecast to affect about 44,000 passengers.
The major carrier expects further flight cancellations in and after September due to the engine checks.
"We sincerely apologize for causing great trouble to our customers," ANA said.
The transport ministry issued orders between April and June for ANA to check Rolls-Royce PLC engines used in its Boeing 787s as air compressor rotor blades may crack due to vibration. Jiji Press
