EXCLUSIVE: Japan’s Extra Budget to Include 632 B. Yen for Disaster Measures
December 14, 2018
Tokyo--The Japanese government's planned fiscal 2018 second supplementary budget will include 632.3 billion yen in spending on emergency measures to beef up the country's resilience to natural disasters, Jiji Press learned on Thursday.
The sum will include 154.8 billion yen to reinforce river banks and 126.6 billion yen to improve main roads.
These measures are part of a three-year intensive program that the government plans to draw up to make the country more disaster-resilient, following torrential rain in western Japan in July and other natural disasters.
The extra budget will also include spending of 9.5 billion yen to bolster drainage systems and raise the level of levees at airports and 30.6 billion yen to make port facilities resistant to earthquakes. Jiji Press
