Hitachi Team Wins Monorail System Order from Panama
August 31, 2018
New York- A group of three companies including Japan's Hitachi Ltd. has won an 840-million-dollar monorail system order from Panama, Hitachi said Thursday.
Under a basic accord signed with Metro de Panama SA, Hitachi will provide 28 six-car trains for the Line 3 project to construct a 26.7-kilometer monorail line to connect Panama City and its western suburbs over the Panama Canal, and Ansaldo STS SpA, Hitachi's Italian railway unit, will deliver signaling, telecommunication and power systems. Mitsubishi Corp., another group member, will be in charge of commercial affairs.
The 14-station monorail line will be built to ease traffic congestion around the capital, which has become severe in line with an increase in the number of privately owned cars in the Central American country. Jiji Press
