Honda N-Box Top-Selling Car for 9th Straight Month
June 6, 2018
Tokyo- Honda Motor Co.'s N-Box minivehicle topped Japan's new vehicle sales rankings for the ninth straight month in May, industry data showed Wednesday.
Sales of the N-Box totaled 18,817 units.
Six of the top 10 models were minivehicles, reflecting the popularity of new wagon-type models.
Minivehicles, which have engine displacements of up to 660 cc, have been gaining support from consumers thanks to their low maintenance costs and improved safety features, industry officials said.
Among minivehicle brands, Suzuki Motor Corp.'s <7269> Spacia, whose latest model was released late last year, came in second with sales of 11,298 units. Daihatsu Motor Co.'s Tanto and Move ranked fourth and fifth, with 9,575 units and 9,550 units, respectively.
Toyota Motor Corp.'s small hybrid Aqua was the best performer outside the minivehicle category. It ranked third with sales 10,325 units, moving up from fifth position in the previous month.
Nissan Motor Co.'s Serena minivan came in 10th with 7,397 units. Its lineup added a model featuring Nissan's original hybrid technology in March.
The sales rankings were based on data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association. Jiji Press
