Main share index gains, peso settles at P53.79:$1

The Philippine Stock Exchange index gained on Monday, finishing 84.64 points higher to 7,236.18 while the peso lost nine centavos to settle at P53.79 against the US dollar.
In the broader market, there were 107 gainers, 63 decliners and 36 shares unchanged.
The index was hoisted by the 17 percent increase in the nine-month consolidated net income from of SM Prime Holdings, which ended 1.16 percent higher to P34.90 to be one of the top three active shares.
Volume reached 688.6 million worth P4.45 billion from Friday's 2.17 billion shares valued at P4.94 billion.
Other traded shares were led by Metrobank, up 4.47 percent to P69.80; Ayala Land, up 0.61 percent to P41.15 and BDO, up 2.59 percent to P122.90.
Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) amounted to $863.4 million from Friday's $905.02 million. DMS
