Mazda, Saudi Aramco to Jointly Study Emissions Reductions
August 9, 2018
Tokyo- Mazda Motor Corp. said Wednesday that it will start joint research with Saudi Arabian Oil Co., or Saudi Aramco, on reducing vehicle carbon dioxide emissions.
The project will also be joined by Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, or AIST, the Japanese automaker said.
Mazda plans to put together the results of the joint study around 2020.
Under the project, Saudi Aramco will develop a fuel that results in lower carbon dioxide emissions during the mining and refining process.
Mazda and AIST will research and develop a high-efficiency engine that uses the fuel.
The initiative is expected to yield technologies that reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the process, ranging from mining and refining to driving on roads, Mazda said.
Mazda said that it has not decided at this point whether to use the new fuel and engine for its mass-produced vehicles. Jiji Press
