January 8, 2018

Maynilad Water Services  Inc. has awarded to Megawide Construction Corp its newest water treatment facility, the 88 million liters per day (MLD) Las Piñas Water Reclamation Facility.

The design and build contract, valued at more than P2 billion, is Megawide’s first water reclamation engineering project where it will be partnered with Toshiba Group's UEM India Ltd. (UEM) and local firm LinkEnergie Industries Co., a disclosure by Megaworld to the Philippine Stock Exchange said on Monday.

“The Megawide construction business will continue its expansion this year, starting with Maynilad’s 88 MLD Las Piñas facility,” said group chairman Edgar Saavedra. “We are actively seeking more projects outside the residential and commercial types to expand our portfolio.”

This is the engineering conglomerate’s first project with Maynilad. Once completed, it will allow the water company to recover some 88 million liters per day of potable water, which will be enough to supply 88,000 households.

“We partnered with UEM and LinkENERGIE to ensure delivery of the highest quality standards. UEM brings solid international experience in creating water treatment facilities and we are looking forward applying their world-class standards to this project,” Saavedra said.

UEM is an international environmental services company that specializes in water and wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal. It has a solid presence in the USA, Trinidad & Tobago, and India. It was acquired by the Toshiba Group in 2015.

Saavedra says they are looking into projects that have a big impact on nation building following its multi-year diversification plan

“This is a project that will greatly benefit Greater Manila and adjacent provinces,” said Saavedra. “We are proud to be a partner of Maynilad in this endeavor and we are looking forward to pursuing more projects in this industry.”

Design and other pre-construction work on the Las Piñas facility will begin this January. DMS
