Tokyo- Japanese winemaker Mercian Corp. will open its third winery in Ueda, Nagano Prefecture, central Japan, on Saturday.
The two-story facility, Chateau Mercian Mariko Winery, allows visitors to taste wines while enjoying views of the surrounding vineyard.
The Kirin Holdings Co. subsidiary expects 20,000 to 30,000 visitors annually.
Eight types of grapes are grown in the vineyard.
Visitors will be offered a tour to learn the wine-making process. The winery also has a tasting room and a store.
The well-ventilated area with low rainfall is suited for growing grapes for wine, according to the company.
The winery will be open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Mercian plans to produce some 5,000 cases of wine at the winery in the first business year. One case contains 12 720-mililiter bottles. Jiji Press
