“Minpaku” Lodging Applications Rise to 3,728

Tokyo- The number of applications to register "minpaku" private lodging services stood at 3,728 in Japan as of Friday, when a new law on the business took effect, the Japan Tourism Agency said Wednesday.
The figure was up from 2,707 as of June 8.
Applications are expected to increase further, Commissioner Akihiko Tamura told a press conference.
Tokyo saw 1,286 applications, posting the largest number among the country's 47 prefectures. Hokkaido came next with 710 applications, followed Osaka with 235. Jiji Press
