Nippon Rent-A-Car to End 24-Hour Services at All Outlets

Tokyo- Nippon Rent-A-Car Service Inc. said Tuesday that it will stop round-the-clock services at all outlets across Japan by Dec. 10 as part of work-style reforms.

The Tokyo-based company is the first Japanese car rental operator to fully end 24-hour services.

Nippon Rent-A-Car believes that the impact of the move, which was prompted by a need to improve the work-life balance, will be limited, company officials said, noting that an increasing number of family restaurants, for example, are moving to cease round-the-clock operations.

In line with the revision, many outlets of Nippon Rent-A-Car will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Meanwhile, the company will increase the number of outlets that also offer car-sharing services, mainly targeting people who want to use cars late in the night and early in the morning.

Of its 210 24-hour outlets across the country, Nippon Rent-A-Car started in stages from June to have some 140 in Tokyo and neighboring Kanagawa Prefecture stop offering services around the clock.

In Tokyo and Kanagawa, a total of 65 outlets now provide both car-sharing and rental services. Jiji Press
