Omron Involved in Inappropriate Product Shipping
June 10, 2018
Kyoto- Omron Corp. has shipped in Japan five models of uninterruptible power supply equipment not clearing European Union environmental standards as products that meet the rules, President Yoshihito Yamada said Friday.
The company made the disclosure only after media reports on the problem emerged. Yamada said he is sorry for the belated announcement.
In the UPS units, used in offices and elsewhere, parts procured by Omron contained substance covered by EU restrictions on harmful materials.
The Kyoto-based company learned of the problem in May and then stopped shipments of the products.
Omron has shipped 554,227 units in Japan so far. But it is unclear how many of them actually fail to meet the EU rules.
The company claimed that the problem does not constitute any violation of Japanese law or cause any health damage to users.
Omron products are billed as conforming with strict EU regulations as the company hopes to highlight its environmentally friendly attitude. Jiji Press
