Peso closes at P50.53 against US dollar

The peso weakened slightly in the afternoon session but still closed at P50.53 against the US dollar on Thursday from the previous day's P50.55. The peso surged to P50.40 in morning trading but went down slowly after lunch time. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System went down from Wednesday's $595.7 million to $372.5 million. The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 1.52 points lower to 7,936.85 points. In the broader market, there were 105 decliners, 88 gainers while 56 were unchanged. Volume reached 1.99 billion shares worth P9.23 billion. Foreigners were net sellers with P5.2 billion while buying was at P4.91 billion. Among gainers were Bogo-Medellin Milling Corp, up 16.30 percent to P135 and Zeus Holdings, up 14 percent to P0.285. Most active shares included Ayala Land, unchanged at P41.55 and SM Investments Corp., up 0.06 percent to P791.50 and Universal Robina Corp, 0.06 percent to P162.70. DMS
