Peso closes at P50.545 against US dollar, stocks up

The Philippine peso weakened to an intraday low of P50.57 against the US dollar before closing at P50.545 on Monday. On Friday, the peso closed at P50.47 against the greenback. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System declined from Friday's $760.90 million to $395 million. The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 23.26 points higher to 7,866.52. In the broader market, there were 118 gainers, 74 decliners and 53 issues unchanged. Volume reached 1.78 billion shares worth P4.89 billion. Foreigners were net buyers with P2.34 billion compared to selling of P2.07 billion. Gainers were led by Bogo Medellin Milling Corp., up 9.84 percent to P115. Most active shares included DMCI Holdings, up 1.42 percent to P14.30. DMS
