Peso ends at P54.23:$1, up by nine centavos from Thursday

The Philippine peso closed at P54.23 against the US dollar on Friday, up by nine centavos from the previous day's close.
The peso initially slumped to P54.33 as the September inflation rate came in 6.7 percent, which was higher than August's 6.4 percent, but within official forecasts.
Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $592.5 million from Thursday's $893.1 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 7,078.20, down 15.14 points. In the broader market, there were 129 decliners, 66 gainers and 40 shares unchanged.
Volume amounted to 1.13 billion shares worth P4.08 billion from Thursday's 1.046 billion shares valued at P4,3 billion.
Most traded shares were Ayala Land, up 1.04 percent to P3.9 billion; SM Prime, up 0.59 percent to P P34.30; Jollibee, down 1.98 percent to P247 and Globe Telecom, up 2.25 percent to P2,227. DMS
