Peso ends flat vs US dollar at P54.325:$1

The Philippine peso closed flat against the US dollar while the local stock exchange index ended lower on Wednesday, a day before a monetary policy meeting at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
The peso hit an intraday low of P54.325 against the greenback before it closed at this amount. On Tuesday, the peso finished at P54.31.
Volume at the foreign exchange portal at the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) amounted to $623.4 million from $668.35 million on the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index ended at 7, 268.31, down 63.96 points. In the broader market, there were 121 decliners, 66 gainers and 54 shares unchanged.
Volume amounted to 1.049 billion shares valued at P4.936 billion from Tuesday's 612.44 million worth P3.5 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Corp., up 2.23 percent to P940; SM Investment Corp., up 0.87 percent to P873.50; Metro Pacific, down 5.49 percent to P4.65; BDO, down 4.2 percent to P114 and MRC Allied, down 9.86 percent to 64 centavos. DMS
