Peso hits new 12-year-low of P53.88 vs US dollar

The peso hit a new 12-year-low against the US dollar on Monday, closing at P53.88, fifteen centavos down from Friday.
The Philippine currency hit the day's low of P53.92 against the US dollar. Volume at the Bankers Association of the Philippines foreign exchange portal amounted to $434.9 million from $956.9 million on Friday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 7,596.12 points, down 2.49 points after being down by 96 points at one stage. In the broader market, there were 124 decliners, 62 gainers and 55 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.44 billion shares valued at P7.4 billion from Friday's 646.75 million shares worth P6.29 billion. Foreigners were net sellers, with selling at P4.54 billion compared to buying of P3.69 billion.
Most active shares were led by Filinvest up 1.36 percent to P1.49; Ayala Corp., down 0.33 percent to P914 and Universal Robina Corp., up 5.59 percent to P153. DMS
