Peso improves to P53.96 against US dollar

The Philippine peso rallied to P53.96 against the US dollar on Tuesday, a gain of eight centavos from the previous day.
The local stock index gained slightly but remained short of retaking the key 7,000 point level on Tuesday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange closed at 6.987.02 points, up 60.51 points. In the broader market, there were 100 gainers, 83 decliners and 51 shares unchanged.
Volume amounted 425.55 million shares worth P4.74 billion from Monday's 542.16 million shares valued at P4.4 billion.
Most active shares were led by International Container Terminal Services Inc., up 0.54 percent to P93.50; SM Prime, down 0.59 percent to P33.50 and Ayala Land, up 2.55 percent to P40.20. DMS
