Philippine peso declines but stays above P54:$1

The Philippine peso closed at P53.965 against the US dollar from P53.89 while the Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 41.57 points higher to 7, 141.25 as it returned to a key mark.
In the broader market, there were 92 gainers, 85 decliners and 47 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 457.65 million worth P4.02 billion from Wednesday's 425.55 million valued at P4.75 billion.
Most active shares were led by Universal Robina Corp., down 1.01 percent to P146.50; Security Bank, unchanged at P152, Ayala Land, down 0.49 percent to P40.60 and SM Investment Corp., up 2.12 percent to P868.
Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $729.25 million from 872.95 million on the previous day. DMS
