Porsche to Release First Electric Vehicle in Japan in 2020

Tokyo- The Japanese unit of Porsche AG has announced plans to release the Mission E, the first electric vehicle model for the German luxury sports car maker, in the Japanese market in 2020.
The four-door vehicle, equipped with a 600-horsepower motor, can travel up to more than 500 kilometers on a single battery charge, according to Tokyo-based Porsche Japan.
It can reach a speed of 100 kilometers per hour in less than 3.5 seconds after starting.
"The Mission E was developed with a totally different concept" from existing Porsche cars, Toshiyuki Shimegi, president of Porsche Japan, said, showing the company's plan to attract new customers with the electric car.
The price of the Mission E has yet to be fixed. The vehicle is slated to be launched in the U.S. and European markets in 2019.
Porsche has already released plug-in hybrid vehicles in Japan. The Porsche group aims to raise the proportion of eco-friendly cars, including electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, in its total global vehicle sales to 50 pct in 2025. Jiji Press
