PSE index ends lower, peso gains vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index closed lower on Monday, the last trading day for September.
But the peso gained to end at P51.83 against the US dollar from P51.875 on Friday.Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $991.27 million from $1.209 billion.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7,779.07 points, down 40.15 points. In the broader market, there were 125 losers, 71 gainers and 52 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.99 billion shares worth P12.93 billion from Friday's 1.48 billion shares valued at P5.93 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 15 centavos to P49.45; SM Investment Corp., down P29 to P971 and Ayala Corp., down P8,5o to P884.50. DMS
