PSE index falls below 6,000 pts; peso at P49.25:$1

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index fell below a key level on Monday.
But the peso rose to end at P49.25 against the US dollar from P49.33 on Friday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines (BAP) reached $838.17 million from Friday' $472.5 million,
The PSE index closed at 5.860.94 points, down 142.32 points. In the broader market, there were 123 losers, 72 gainers and 49 unchanged.
Volume reached 3.1 billion shares worth P3.94 billion from Friday's 1.31 billion shares valued at P2.94 billion.
Most active shares were led by MerryMart, up 11 centavos to P2.46; SM Investment Corp., down P16.50 to P884; Metrobank, down P1.75 to P34.30 and BDO, down P3.05 to P90. DMS
