PSE index gains, peso ends lower vs US dollar

The main Philippine share index closed higher on Wednesday.
The peso closed at P50.81 against the US dollar from P50.735 on Tuesday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $782.8 million from $742.36 million on the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange ( PSE) index finished at 7,786.41 points, up 55.23. In the broader market, there were 98 gainers, 86 losers and 53 unchanged.
Volume reached 666.15 million shares worth P5.29 billion from Tuesday's 525.65 million shares valued at P3.87 billion.
Most active shares were led by Metro Pacific, down 48 centavos to P3.19; DMCI, down 79 centavos to P5.11 and SM Prime, up P1.05 to P41.95. DMS
