PSE index slips below 8,000 points

Stocks declined on Wednesday, as the Philippine Stock Exchange index ended 65.38 points lower to 7,983.97.
In the broader market, there were 111 decliners, 71 gainers and 66 unchanged. Volume reached 2.71 billion shares valued P6.72 billion. Foreigners were net sellers, unloading P4 billion worth of shares compared to buying P3.68 billion of stocks.
Among those stocks which bucked the market downtrend were Harbor Star Shipping, up 14.70 percent to P2.95, Metro Pacific Investments, up 1.53 to P6.63 and Megaworld, up 2.37 percent to P 5.18.
The peso closed at P51.098 against the US dollar from P51.14. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $468.80 million from $511 million on Tuesday. DMS
