PSE index surges to biggest one-day gain in two gainers

The Philippine Stock Exchange index surged to its highest one-day gain since January 25, 2016 while the peso ended slightly higher against the US dollar on Friday. The peso closed at P54.04 against the US dollar from P54.075 on Thursday. Volume at the Bankers Association of the Philippines foreign exchange portal reached $669.9 million from $606.1 million on the previous day. The index climbed 248.37 points to close at P7,383. In the broader market, there were 114 decliners, 86 gainers and 43 shares unchanged. Volume reached 1.2 billion shares worth P11.68 billion from Thursday's 848.73 million shares valued at P5.49 billion. Foreigners continued to be net sellers, unloading P7.75 billion compared to buying of P7.62 billion. Most active shares were led by Aboitiz Equity Ventures, up 6.35 percent to P46.90; SM Investment Corp., up 3.48 percent to P892; SM Prime, up 2.78 percent to P37 and BDO Unibank, up 7.88 percent to P 120.60.
