PSE index surrenders gains, peso declines to P53.44:$1

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index fell to selling pressure and wiped out a big early gain to end lower on Monday.
The peso weakened by 16 centavos to end at P53.44 against the US dollar on lower volume. Turnover reached $449.2 million from $921.5 million.
The PSE Index finished at 6,986.88, down 76.32 for the day after being up by as much as 102.21 in early trading. In the broader market, there were 101 decliners, 80 gainers and 59 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 715 million worth P 6.12 billion down from Friday's 1.83 nillion shares valued at P8.05 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, down 3.33 percent to P36.30; SM Investment Corp., 2.65 percent to P845 and Metrobank, up 0.41 percent to P73.60. DMS
