PSE index up, MerryMart declines

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose on Thursday even as newly-listed MerryMart fell 62 centavos to P2.75.
The peso hit the day's high of P49.96 against the US dollar but settled at P50.17. On Wednesday, the peso ended at P50.03. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached P1.16 billion from P768.5 million on Wednesday.
The PSE index gained 66.44 points to 6,348.45. In the broader market,there were 124 losers, 69 gainers and 46 unchanged.
Volume reached 2.77 billion shares worth P10.4 billion from Wednesday's 1.26 billion shares valued at P8.09 billion.
Aside from MerryMart, other most active shares were SM Investment Corp., up P7 to P963; Emperador, down 3 centavos to P8.09 and Vitarich, up 10 centavos to 90 centavos. DMS
