San Miguel Corp. to build first brewery in the US at Los Angeles
May 31, 2017
San Miguel Corp. said it is planning to build a $150 million brewery in Los Angeles and two more facilities in Cagayan de Oro and Iloilo, the firm said in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange Wednesday. Ferdinand Constantino, corporate information officer, said San Miguel will set aside $500 million over the next two and a half years in Cagayan de Oro and Iloilo. The breweries have a capacity of two million hectoliters each, added Constantino. San Miguel Corp. president Ramon Ang, in an ambush interview at the firm’s stockholders meeting on Tuesday, said he will leave for the US in June to finalize the purchase of a property in Los Angeles to serve as the brewery. “The reason we are going to build a brewery in the US is because the volume of exports today in America can now warrant us to put up the brewery to support that volume,” said Ang, according to a news report. This will be San Miguel’s first brewery in the US. DMS
