Shimadzu to Acquire German Firm for 600 M. Yen
June 26, 2018
Kyoto- Shimadzu Corp. said Tuesday it will acquire a German company offering aftermarket services for turbomolecular pumps, used in semiconductor-manufacturing equipment and other machinery, for some 600 million yen.
The Japanese precision machinery maker will make Munich-based infraserv Vakuumservice GmbH a subsidiary next month, it said.
The acquisition is aimed at strengthening the sales system of turbomolecular pumps in Europe, including offering aftermarket services and winning new customers, at a time when demand for semiconductor-manufacturing equipment is growing, Shimadzu said.
Shimadzu's turbomolecular pumps division saw its sales grow 34 pct in fiscal 2017 from the previous year to 19.2 billion yen, thanks to increased demand for semiconductors.
The company hopes the German unit will help the division achieve 25 billion yen in sales in fiscal 2022, it said. Jiji Press
