Stock index breaches 8,300 but ends lower

The Philippine Stock Exchange index broke past a key level in early trading but closed lower at the end of the day's session on Friday. The PSE Index finished at 8, 281.27, down 5.59 points. In the broader market, there were 109 decliners, 93 gainers and 47 unchanged. At 10:35 a.m, the PSE index was up 18.31 points to 8,305.17. The intraday record of 8,321.81 for the PSE Index was set on Sept 21. Volume reached 3.07 billion shares worth P6.15 billion. Foreigners were net buyers, with P2.82 billion bought and P2.50 billion sold. Most active shares were led by Bloomberry Resorts, up 2.96 percent to P10.50, PXP Energy Corp., up 27.47 percent to P7.75 and Cebu Landmasters, up 2.56 percent to P5.23. The peso finished at P50. 725 against the US dollar from P51.08. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $973.80 million from the previous day's $563.80 million. DMS
