Stock index down 1.54%, peso at P52.32:$1

The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed below the 7,600 mark on Tuesday.

The index finished at 7,600.36, down 1.54 percent from Monday. In the broader market, there were 143 decliners, 66 gainers and 40 shares unchanged.

Volume fetched 2.3 billion shares valued at P6.05 billion from Monday's 1.04 billion shares worth P5.48 billion. Foreigners were net sellers with P3.5 billion sold and P3.36 billion bought.

Most traded shares were led by Jollibee, down 3.06 percent to P285; Ayala Land, down 2.91 percent to P40.05 and Vitarich Corp., down 9.38 percent to P2.90.

The peso closed at P52.32 against the US dollar from P52.24. Volume at the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $620.21 million from $757.2 million on the previous day. DMS
