Stock index ends above 8,000; peso at P51:$1

Stocks closed slightly higher on Thursday as the Philippine Stock Exchange index finished above the 8,000 point mark.

The index closed 6.18 points higher to 8,004.93. In the broader market, there were 98 gainers , 83 decliners and 62 unchanged.

Volume reached 1.28 billion shares worth P4.46 billion, Foreigners were net buyers, with P2.32 billion while selling was at P2.27 billion.

Most active shares were led by Ayala Corp., which was unchanged at P899 and Metrobank steady at P89.

The peso surged to P51 against the US dollar from P51.22 on Wednesday. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System climbed to $1.136 billion from $949.10 million. DMS
