Stock index ends higher

The main stock index ended higher while the peso finished flat against the US dollar on Monday, a day before Labor Day holiday.
The peso ended at P52.105 against the US dollar from Monday's P52.11. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.403 billion from Monday's $957.02 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 55.70 points higher to 7,952.72. In the broader market, there were 99 gainers, 89 decliners and 49 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 943.57 million shares worth P6,98 billion from Monday's 1.06 billion shares valued at P5.81 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 0.93 percent to P48.95; ICTSI, up 0.72 percent to P126.50 and SM Prime, up 2.35 percent to P41,45. DMS
