Stock index, peso ends lower

The Philippine Stock Exchange index lost ground in afternoon trading as it closed 38.54 points lower to 7,197.52 points on Tuesday.
In the broader market, there were 120 decliners, 74 gainers and 40 shares unchanged.
Volume amounted to 6.50 million shares worth P5.14 billion from Monday's 688.6 million shares valued at P4.45 billion.
Most traded shares were led by SM Prime, down 2.58 percent to P34; Ayala Land, down 1.34 percent to P40 and SM Investment Corp., down 1.14 percent to P888.
The peso closed at P53.815 against the US dollar from P53.79 on Monday. Volume at the foreign exchange trading portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $711.9 million from the previous session's $863.4 million. DMS
