Stock index retreats for second day

The Philippine Stock Exchange index declined for the second straight day on Wednesday.
The index finished at 8,764.01, down 146.47. In the broader market, there were 142 decliners, 61 gainers and 52 shares unchanged.
Volume rose to 2.99 billion shares worth P11.53 billion from Tuesday's 2.39 billion shares valued at P10.05 billion.
Foreigners were net sellers, with P6.65 billion sold and P4.32 billion bought.
Most traded shares were led by SM Investment Corp., down 5.96 percent to P1,025; Ayala Land, down 2.96 percent to P44.25 and BDO Unibank, down 1.61 percent to P153.
The peso hit a day's low of P51.45 against the US dollar before closing at P51.295 from Tuesday's P51.42. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $943.05 million from $926.40 million the previous day. DMS
