Stock index up, but peso ends lower

Philippine stocks ended higher Wednesday but the broader market was relatively flat on Wednesday, a day after a market holiday.
The peso closed at P53.425 against the US dollar from P53.38 on Monday. Volume reached $385.15 million from $424.35 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7, 632.26, up 131.73 points. In the broader market, advances and declines tied at 103, with 36 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.65 billion shares worth P6.48 billion from Monday's 1.42 billion valued at P5.4 billion. Foreigners were net buyers with P3.73 billion with selling at P3.67 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 2.13 percent to P43.10; Jollibee, up 4.76 percent to P286 and Metrobank, down 1.56 percent to P72.45. DMS
