Stock index up, peso advances vs US dollar

Philippine stocks closed higher on Tuesday as the main index gained for the third straight session.
The peso went up to P52.475 against the US dollar from P52.59. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $1.101 billion from $1,083 billion in the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7,721.56 points, up 61.42 points. In the broader market, there were 97 gainers, 94 decliners while 45 shares were unchanged.
Volume reached 750.24 million shares worth P5.41 billion from Monday's 1.01 billion shares valued P4.88 billion.
Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 0.84 percent to P47.90; Ayala Corp., down 0.82 percent to P850 and Jollibee, up 3.06 percent to P282.60. DMS
