Stocks a bit higher in last trading day of August

Stocks ended a bit higher on Thursday, the final trading day of the month of August.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index gained 1.84 points to end at 7,958.57. In the broader market, there were 101 gainers, 84 decliners and 63 unchanged.
Volume reached 1.04 billion shares valued at P11.27 billion.
Among most active stocks were Ayala Equity Ventures, up 0.20 percent to P74.45 and Security Bank, up.48 percent to P250.
The peso declined to P51.17 against the US dollar from P51,13. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System amounted to $494.50 million from $567.45 million. DMS
