Stocks decline, peso gains

Stocks finished lower as the Philippine Stock Exchange index closed 65.88 points lower to 8,156.04.
In the broader market, decliners outnumbered gainers by nearly 2:1. Decliners numbered 141 and gainets 70 while unchanged issues were 38.
Volume reached 1.65 billion shares valued at P10.58 billion.
Among most active stocks were Energy Development Corp., up 4.43 percent to P5.56, Metro Pacific Investments, down 3.25 percent to P6.55 and Alliance Global, down 1.96 percent to P15.98.
The peso closed at P50.980 against the US dollar from P51.02 on Wednesday. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $881.50 million from $684.70 million. DMS
