Stocks down, peso at P50.10 against US dollar

Stocks closed lower while the peso breached the P50 to the US dollar mark on Tuesday. The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished 25.89 points lower to 7,917.86. In the broader market, there were 95 gainers, 91 decliners and 52 unchanged. The peso closed at P50.10 from P49.91 Volume at the Philippine Dealing System was $1.16 billion from Monday's $572.6 million. Volume was at 1.34 billion shares worth P7.08 billion. Foreigners were net sellers with P3.26 billion sold and P2.88 billion bought. Gainers were led by Manila Bulletin Publishing Co., up 18.97 percent to 69 centavos and Metro Retail Stores Group, up 8.59 percent to P4.55. Ayala Land closed 0.95 percent lower to P41.10 and Meralco, up 0.45 percent to P265. DMS
