Stocks end lower, peso gains slightly

Stocks ended lower for a second straight day Wednesday but with the main index staying at the 8,500-point area.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished 13.32 points lower to 8,508.49. In the broader market, there were 128 decliners, 91 gainers and 36 unchanged.
Volume reached 1.6 billion shares worth P7.67 billion. Foreigners were net buyers, purchasing P3.84 billion worth of stocks while selling reached P3.69 billion.
Among most traded shares were Ginebra San Miguel, which rose 33.66 percent to P27; Metrobank, up 2.66 percent to P96.50 and Megaworld, up 2.64 percent to P5.84.
The peso closed at P51.30 against the US dollar from P51.33 on Tuesday. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $721.85 million from $533.70 million. DMS
