Stocks end slightly higher

Stocks lost an initial momentum with the main index finishing slightly higher on Thursday.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 8,519.82 points, up 11.33. In the broader market, there were 114 decliners, 89 gainers and 37 issues unchanged.
Volume reached 1.5 billion shares worth P9.32 billion from Wednesday's 1.6 billion shares worth P7.67 billion.
Most active shares were led by Meralco, up 0.47 percent to P297, Ayala Corp, down 0.47 percent to P1,070, Semirara Mining and Power Corp., down 7.89 percent to P38.50 and Universal Robina Corp., down 1.72 percent to P137.20.
The peso closed at P51.27 against the US dollar from P51.30. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $614.90 million from $721.85 million. DMS
