Stocks end with slim gains, peso at P50.815 against US dollar

Stocks managed to finish with slim gains on Friday even as the Philippine Stock Exchange index clung to the 8,000-point mark as the trading month of September wound down.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index ended 15.39 points higher at 8,171.43 after being up by as much as 84 points at noontime.
In the broad market, there were 131 gainers, 77 decliners and 48 issues unchanged.
Volume reached 9.9 billion shares worth P73 billion.
Most active shares were led by SM Investment Corp., up 1.09 percent to P883, Ayala Land, up 0.69 percent to P43.50 and Megaworld, up 1.16 percent to P5.23.
The peso closed at P50.815 against the US dollar from P50.98. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $740.80 million from $881.50 million on Thursday. DMS
