Stocks gain but peso down

Stocks rose but the peso weakened on Tuesday a day before the government announces August inflation figures.
The peso closed at P53.535 against the US dollar from Monday's P53.46, Volume at the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $440.75 million from $485.8 million the previous day.
The Philippine Stock Exchange closed at 7,881.82 points, up 49.60. In the broader market, there were 101 gainers, 87 decliners and 52 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 874.6 million shares worth P5.9 billion from Monday's 736.95 million shares valued at P5.6 billion.
Most active shares were led by BDO Unibank, up 0.08 percent to P129.90; Ayala Land, up 0.57 percent to P44.20 and International Container Terminal Services Inc., up 1.06 percent to P95. DMS
