Stocks gain, but peso hits intra-day low of P52:$1

Stocks closed higher on Tuesday, as the Philippine Stock Exchange index finished 82.23 points higher to 8,570.14.
However, the peso skidded to the day's low of P52 against the US dollar before it rallied slightly to end at P51.98. On Monday, the peso ended at P51.77. Volume at the Philippine Dealing System reached $1.023 billion from $930.60 million.
But in the broader market, there were 118 decliners, 94 gainers and 36 shares unchanged.
Volume reached 1.8 billion shares valued at P7.67 billion from Monday's 2.39 billion worth P5.86 billion.
Foreigners were net sellers, unloading P3.3 billion worth of shares compared to buying P2.47 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Now Corp., up 29.87 percent to P10.26; SM Prime, up 3.29 percent to P36.15; Bank of the Philippine Islands, up 2.04 percent to P120 and Jollibee, down 2.12 percent to P277. DMS
