Stocks gain, peso closes at P53.22:$1

The local stock index ended at a one-month high on Monday as trading for the month of July neared its end.
The peso surged to close at P53.22 against the US dollar from Friday's P53.285. Volume reached $664.5 million from $794.8 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 7,773.32 points, up 71.94. In the broader market, there were 98 gainers, 91 decliners and 91 unchanged.
Volume reached 1.02 billion worth P5.6 billion from Friday's 1.29 billion shares valued at P6.2 billion. Foreigners continued to be next buyers, with P3.11 billion bought and P2.6 billion worth of shares sold.
Most active shares were led by BDO Unibank, dowm 2.19 percent to P134; Ayala Corp., up 2.32 percent to P1,013 and Universal Robina Corp., up 3.82 percent to P136. DMS
