Stocks gain, peso up

Stocks gained on Thursday, with the Philippine Stock Exchange Index up 45.31 points to 8, 174.93 despite foreign selling.
In the broader market, there were 97 gainers, 93 decliners and 49 unchanged.
Volume reached 877.79 million worth P5.95 billion. Foreign selling reached P3.3 billion while foreign buying amounted to P2.96 billion.
Most actively traded shares were led by Meralco, up 3.57 percent to P319; Ayala Corp., down 0.99 percent to P1000 and Semirara Mining and Power Corp., up 7.04 percent to P38.
The peso gained six centavos to close at P50.65. Volume reached $706.60 million from Wednesday's $599.20 million. DMS
