Stocks index declines, peso gains

The local stock index lost ground due to selling in the last hour of trading on Monday, as it fell below 7,000 points.
The peso, meanwhile, gained five centavos to end at P54.08 against the US dollar from Friday's P54.13. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines amounted to $528.9 million from Friday's $776.1 million.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index finished at 6,926.51 points, down 78.26. It was the lowest close since March 2016.
In the broader market, there were 106 gainers, 84 decliners and 41 shares unchanged.
Volume went down to 542.16 million shares worth P4.4 billion from Friday's 636.86 million shares valued at P5.28 billion.
Most traded shares were led by Ayala Land, down 0.25 percent to P39.20; Security Bank, up 1.56 percent to P143.1o and BDO, down 0.09 percent to P109.90. DMS
